Automatic Veterinary Medical Examination Table
Project Overview
This project involves the design and fabrication of an automated veterinary medical examination table to aid animal diagnosis in veterinary hospitals. It uses a hydraulic scissor lift mechanism to adjust table height, ensuring easier handling, improved safety, and enhanced comfort for both animals and medical personnel.
Objectives
To design and fabricate an automatic vet exam table using hydraulic principles.
To reduce manual effort and improve safety during animal handling.
To study the cost and performance compared to existing veterinary tables.
Key Features
Hydraulic Scissor Lift: Enables smooth lifting of the table with minimal human effort.
Three-Phase Motor Power Pack: Provides efficient and quick actuation of the hydraulic system.
Movable Base with Caster Wheels: Ensures easy transport and positioning.
Mild Steel Frame: Chosen for durability and strength after a decision matrix comparison with stainless steel and aluminium.
Components Used
Hydraulic system (single-acting and double-acting cylinders)
Scissor lift arms
Mild steel base frame and top bed
Caster wheels
Three-phase motor (1 HP, 2880 RPM)
Handle and control valves
Design and Fabrication
CAD modelling of all major components, including the top bed, frame, and scissor arms.
Manufacturing techniques used: metal cutting, welding, drilling, and assembly line setup.
The final product is tested to lift animals up to 60 kg.
Results
Successfully reduced manual handling strain for veterinary physicians.
Provided a stable, height-adjustable platform suitable for cats, dogs, and other small pets.
Potential for future integration of IV stands, straps, and lighting systems for complete diagnostics.
